Contact sync issue in Android – Resolved

I have been having issues with the contacts syncing with my Samsung S II. Tried many options and at last have been able to solve that.

Each time I try to sync with my Gmail contacts I get error message “Sync is currently experiencing problems. Please try later.” Below are the steps to solve the issue.

Ø  Go to “Settings”. Select “Applications”.
    Ø  Select “Manage Applications”.
Ø  Scroll down to “Contacts Storage”
    Ø  Click on “Clear Data”
Ø  Go back to “Settings” again and in “'Accounts and sync”
Ø  Resync by pressing “Synchronize Now”

This just worked for me so I hope it helps others.

P.S: Make sure you back up the contacts on your phone maybe to your SD card. I didn't follow this step and didn't lose my contacts but it could well delete them all. Just a warning :-)

New Bouncer for the Android Apps Club

Google has introduced a new security feature that will scan all the apps in the android market. The scan is mainly to check if there are any malware’s in the application.

Here’s how it works: once an application is uploaded, the service immediately starts analyzing it for known malware, spyware and Trojans. It also looks for behaviors that indicate an application might be misbehaving, and compares it against previously analyzed apps to detect possible red flags. Every application on Google’s cloud infrastructure are run and simulated on how it will run on an Android device to look for hidden, malicious behavior. Also analyze new developer accounts to help prevent malicious and repeat-offending developers from coming back.

Google says that there has been a 40% decrease in the number of potentially-malicious downloads from Android Market. While it’s not possible to prevent bad people from building malware, the most important measurement is whether those bad applications are being installed from Android Market.

In addition to the new service Android has many additional security features which do not allow malware or Trojans to enter. Some of Androids’ core security features are Sandboxing and permissions.

No security approach is foolproof, and added scrutiny can often lead to important improvements. Google systems are getting better at detecting and eliminating malware every day, and continue to invite the community to work with us to keep Android safe.

The next sweet OS

Android has been in market from quite some time. Google has been making new changes and upgrading their OS. Their code names of each version are based on sweets.
From 2.1 to Froyo to GingerBread to Ice cream sandwich to the next new one - Jelly Beans.

Jelly Beans is expected to be out in Oct or Nov this year. These are unconfirmed reports and Google has not release any official information on that, but with what is heard the new version is going to be a game changing stuff.

Earlier the new changes were supposed to be release for Ice cream sandwich but now are targeted for jelly beans. There are some major architectural, functional, and design changes in Ice Cream Sandwich, so this is still going to be a big-time release.
With rumors of the Ice Cream Sandwich-powered Nexus Prime from Samsung hitting a fever pitch lately, it seems likely that an announcement is imminent.

It is also heard from another source that Jelly Bean is in the running for the name, but that the choice hasn’t yet been finalized by Google; for what it’s worth, the pickings are fairly slim for desserts with “J” names, so Jelly Bean seems like a solid choice.
